The Bowie Concert Tape Files: Vancouver – September 11 1983

With 96 shows over eight legs covering no less than 15 countries, David Bowie’s “Serious Moonlight Tour” of 1983 made some serious money, selling over 2.5 million tickets.  With it came plenty of concert recordings and one of my personal picks from the tour was recorded on September 11 at the PNE Coliseum in Vancouver.

The following night’s show along with this show, were recorded for home video release however, the audience recording of this first show, despite a few technical hiccups is a resounding success.  It was originally recorded on a Denon DRM-500 tape deck with TDK SA90 tapes.

There is a 92% speed reduction to bring the recording into line making the overall sound quality at 8 out of 10 for bootleg recordings.  It was uploaded to The Mind Warp Pavillion on July 18 2013, almost 20 years after its original recording.

Bowie is at the top of his game during this show.  There are clear signs he was in fine form during the recording.  Clocking in at just under two solid hours, this is a bootleg not to be missed!
