I was sent a somewhat disturbing image this afternoon. I looked at the size of this woman and could not help but wonder what when wrong in her life to lead her down such a destructive pathway.
Too often today I hear the term “big is beautiful” which tends to grate on my nerves a little. Big, to me, is far from beautiful or healthy. Big puts a strain on our health system. Big significantly reduces ones lifespan. Big is just wrong.
So why have we gone from a world of relatively healthy people to one where being grossly overweight is accepted and, in some cases, encouraged. Australia is now a fatter nation than the United States. How does that statistic alone not frighten more people into getting healthy?
Perhaps we should look to point the finger at McDonalds, Burger King and other fast food outlets for conditioning our society into thinking that eating rubbish and junk is acceptable. Or, do we blame politicians for not regulating fast food advertising? Brisbane CBD is loaded with fast food outlets almost every step of the way. Have we gone a step too far? Only time will tell.
Perhaps now, more than ever before we need the parents of Australia and other nations to start saying no more often when their kids ask for junk? I see far too many highly irresponsible parents in our modern world feeding their toddlers hot chips and coke.
I’m not asking for people to go on 24/7 health kicks. I guess all I am asking is that we take more responsibility for our own actions in the lifestyle we chose to lead.
