He’s done it again!

Just when you thought the impact of David Bowie’s return had worn off, it has been revealed that his album which set the music world alive early in 2013, “The Next Day” has become the latest addition to “1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die”, the music lovers guide to albums that warrant listening.

With “The Next Day” now part of the set it sees Bowie reach the summit as the artist or band with the most entries.  This list is as follows.

David Bowie: 8

The Beatles & Bob Dylan: 7

Elvis Costello, The Rolling Stones & Neil Young: 6

The ByrdsLed ZeppelinIggy Pop (and The Stooges)Sonic YouthBruce SpringsteenTom WaitsThe Who: 5

The book accounts for albums released from 1955 onwards.  

Reaching the number 1 chart position in 20 countries, “The Next Day” also hit the number 2 in a further 6 regions, cementing Bowie’s glorious return.  The album was re-issued in late 2013 and included a bonus disc and bonus DVD of extra material.

    While I’m pleased that some late-period Bowie has finally been included, it’s a glaring oversight that nothing between “Heroes” and The Next Day has made the list. Lodger, Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps), Outside, Earthling and Heathen should all be rightly recognised as classics too.
