A crazy weekend it was. One that started out with beautiful sunshine and soon enough ended with some of the wildest storms Brisbane has seen in many years. By the end of it all it went down as one of the best I have had on record.
Things started swimmingly with a fun run known as the “Budgie Bolt”, a 5 km fun run in, you guessed it, budgie smugglers through the inner dwellings of Brisbane’s south bank and river front. As nervous as I might have been about running the streets in next to nothing it was all for a good cause. Over $70,000 was raised for for Young Care Australia by the 250 runners on the day.
So there we have it. The first part of the running was over. Saturday made a light 7 km run before work then some rest before the madness of Sunday.
The day is a bit of a blur now. However I do know that Sunday included 31 km’s in running over two games of football and a half marathon that ended due to a nasty little storm at the 16 km mark. Frustratingly I was on my way for a time of around 1 hour 35 minutes when they pulled the pin.
One can understand though. This has to be the worst weather I have ever run in. It rolled in and out within half an hour before leaving a heavy trail of destruction and a man in critical condition after a tree fell on him during the race. Fingers are tightly crossed he makes a speedy recovery.
I would do it all again in a heartbeat though. Minus the horrid weather of course.
